The award recognises a coach who is committed to their own development while supporting the success and growth of their players. It celebrates fairness, respect and mentorship, as well as coaches who make a positive contribution to their wider community and demonstrate Christchurch Netball’s values of passion, partnership, innovation and inclusion.
These are qualities Jen brings to everything she does.
Alongside her role at The Kind Foundation, Jen coaches the Senior A and B netball teams at Villa Maria College. Over many years, she has helped players develop their skills, grow in confidence and recognise what they are capable of, both on and off the court. Jen’s influence also extends well beyond the teams she coaches. She freely shares her knowledge, supports other coaches and creates opportunities for students and volunteers to observe, ask questions and learn. Her approach is open, generous and grounded in a genuine desire to help others succeed.
This season, Jen brought Villa Maria’s Senior A and B teams together under one shared vision: “Stronger Together.” Her aim was to create an environment in which every player felt valued, connected and challenged to be their best. What began as a new way of working soon became a shared mindset. Players trained together, supported one another and grew as a collective, creating a culture based on connection, commitment, accountability, fun and belonging.
The results on the court reflected that positive environment, with both teams enjoying outstanding seasons and reaching their respective finals. However, Jen’s coaching has never been solely about results.
At the heart of her approach is a commitment to creating a space where young women can be themselves, build confidence and enjoy time away from the pressures of school and everyday life. She encourages her players to communicate openly, take responsibility and give back to the people around them.
That spirit of generosity can be seen throughout Villa Maria Netball, with players supporting other teams through coaching, trials and umpiring. Jen leads by example, also giving her time and expertise to support the wider Canterbury netball community, including helping umpires develop their confidence and practical experience.

Those of us who work alongside Jen at The Kind Foundation will immediately recognise these qualities. As our Recreation & Wellbeing Manager, she leads with care, purpose and a genuine belief in the potential of others. She has a wonderful ability to bring people together and create environments where they feel welcomed, supported and empowered to grow.
